What is Cloud Computing?
“Cloud computing describes a new supplement, consumption, and delivery model for IT services based on the Internet, and it typically involves over-the-Internet provision of dynamically scalable and often virtualized resources. It is a byproduct and consequence of the ease-of-access to remote computing sites provided by the Internet. The opportunity to lower costs, share applications at great speed and, increase innovation are all attractive to any business. Cloud computing will transform the way applications are designed, built and delivered so what does that mean for your business?
The New Media Breakfast is please to welcome Tommy Mitchell, NVT Computing Ltd who will explain what cloud computing means for businesses and what impact it will have of current practice. He will explain the differences between public clouds, private clouds and hybrid clouds. He will also suggest how you can take advantage of various cloud applications and help you to identify the factors you need to consider for your business.
About the Speaker
With over 25 years experience in the IT Services sector, Tommy Mitchell has spent his entire working life providing innovative services and solutions to a diverse range of organisations throughout the UK, Europe and further afield.
Beginning his career in the early stages of the UK Personal Computer boom of the mid 1980s as a Field Service Engineer, he progressed through Consulting and Management roles with UK based IT Service Providers delivering leading edge technology solutions and services across the entire business spectrum.
He has passion for solving business issues by leveraging technology combined with common sense and a keen awareness of commercial realities.
In 1997, Tommy joined a fledgling Wisdom IT as Technical Director and was instrumental in directing the company’s growth from 4 people to 40 and turnover from below £100,000 to over £3.5Million in the subsequent 8 years, collecting five consecutive Deloitte & Touche Technology FAST 50 awards and two Lothian Business Excellence awards for Technology &Innovation in the process.
In 2005, Wisdom was acquired in the formation of NVT Group where Tom joined the board in his current role as Group Sales & Technical Director.
